Brad Maclachlan

Brad Maclachlan has been awarded the Civil Aviation Authority Director’s Commendation Award for demonstrating a sustained commitment to maintaining and improving aviation safety.

The esteemed award was announced at the annual Aviation Industry Association conference Gala dinner on 28th August and presented by Director, Keith Manch.

Brad is currently the CAA-approved senior person as the Safety Manager and Occurrences for The Helicopter Line. Here, he is dedicated to a detailed approach to safety, utilising his broad skill set and understanding of both ground and air operations.

“Brad exhibits a diligent commitment to safety regarding SMS systems, equipment and maintenance. He utilises his expertise and experience to share knowledge amongst his team and across the industry,” says Mark Quickfall, CEO of The Helicopter Line.

In 2018, Brad established Coast Aviation. He was motivated by the widely known issues of the Hughes 500 door mechanisms. This project involved developing the Positive Latch System designed for all MD 369 variations. The system is now NZ STC and FAA approved. This innovative system ensures that doors are closed correctly and stay closed to add safety to daily operations.

Brad is a highly deserving winner of this award. His commitment to creating innovative safety solutions shows a significant contribution to the aviation community and a dedication to operational safety.
